Harry Kane isn’t just making headlines on the field at the World Cup. After U.S. President Donald Trump publicly praised the Bayern striker, the English captain spoke about a personal encounter with the head of state—and revealed some surprising details.

Harry Kane has been one of the defining figures of the World Cup so far. With his goals, the forward led England to the quarterfinals, where they now face a matchup against surprise team Norway.

But ahead of the match, for once, the focus wasn’t on his performance on the field. Instead, the 32-year-old spoke about Donald Trump, who had recently publicly praised the Bayern Munich star.

“He invited me to play.”

As Kane revealed, he met the U.S. president in person about a year and a half ago. At the time, the Englishman even played a round of golf with Trump during a stay in Palm Beach.

“He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. I mean, when the president invites you—it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and play golf with him,” Kane explained.

For the striker, the encounter was an extraordinary experience that he still remembers to this day.

Trump raves about Kane

Most recently, Trump had praised the Bayern Munich pro in no uncertain terms on his Truth Social platform following England’s dramatic round of 16 victory over Mexico.

“Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!” wrote the U.S. president.

Speaking with reporters, Trump added: “I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer. He’s really great.”

Kane likely took these words in stride with a smile. The Bayern star is now focusing on the game again, however—after all, he wants to lead England one step closer to the World Cup title in the quarterfinals against Norway.
