Aaron Anselmino in focus: From Boca talent to BVB defender | OneFootball

Signing your first professional contract and following it up with your debut that same day? No problem for Aaron Anselmino. On 10 June 2023, the Argentine signed on the dotted line with Boca Juniors, one of the country's biggest clubs, and then took to the pitch against Lanus a matter of hours later – as if it were his bread and butter. His debut represented the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.

Anselmino was born in Bernardo Larroude, Argentina, and spent his youth playing for Juventud Unida and Sportivo Realico before joining the Boca Juniors youth team at the age of 12. Six years later he moved up to the first team, for whom he made a further nine appearances after his debut and scored his first professional goal in April 2024: the winning goal in the Copa Sudamericana group-stage match against Trinidense.

In the summer of that same year, Chelsea came knocking and secured the services of the central defender, who can also play in midfield. However, the Premier League club immediately loaned Anselmino back to Argentina, where he was to continue his development at his home club for a year. After 18 appearances, Chelsea decided in January 2025 to exercise a clause in his contract in order to bring the Argentine to London ahead of schedule. The 20-year-old made his debut for the Blues against Benfica in the round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup. At the end of the tournament, he lifted the trophy with Chelsea. Now he is moving on to Borussia Dortmund, his second stop in European football.
