Abdul Fatawu’s World Cup showing could shape Leicester City’s summer, his impactful cameo for Ghana offering hope of a stronger sale.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the 22-year-old is the club’s leading asset after successive relegations left them in League One, and last summer’s €45m (£39m) talk has since dropped, with Besiktas open to paying only €15m (£13.9m).

Ghana played just one warm-up against Wales, where Fatawu was withdrawn at half-time. Carlos Queiroz then started Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah in the opener against Panama, with Ghana blunt as Panama created chances.

Fatawu replaced Nuamah before the hour, alongside Brandon Thomas-Asante. Ghana produced their first effort on target five minutes later, then in the fifth minute of added time Caleb Yirenkyi bundled in at the back post for a vital win.

His entrance was widely praised, with his pace troubling full-back Andres Andrade. He completed eight of nine passes, created one chance and attempted four dribbles.

The World Cup is a rare shop window for Leicester’s squad too, with Harry Souttar superb for Australia in their opener against Türkiye.

Ghana’s second-half lift leaves Queiroz with a selection call before facing England, who looked shaky defensively in their 4-2 win over Croatia. With England and Croatia still to come in Group L, two strong displays could add millions to the fee Leicester demand.
