Abel Ferreira apologised for a gesture towards Flaco López, addressing it after Palmeiras beat Jacuipense 4-1 on Wednesday 13.

As reported by Nosso Palestra, he said the middle-finger sign during a goal celebration against Sporting Cristal was not intended to provoke and he wanted to apologise.

The incident responded to López’s earlier thumbs-up in Lima. Suspended for the Remo game, he had not spoken since and used the Londrina press conference to call it a mistake and accept responsibility.

On the pitch, Palmeiras sealed a place in the Copa do Brasil last 16 with a 4-1 win at Estádio do Café in Londrina. Managing fatigue and a heavy run, Abel fielded an almost entirely rotated side.
