Abel Ferreira charged by STJD over two Palmeiras matches | OneFootball

The STJD has charged Palmeiras head coach Abel Ferreira in two disciplinary cases arising from expulsions in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Both cite Article 258 of the CBJD, which carries a suspension of one to six matches, and the ban may be replaced by a warning if the offence is minor.

According to Globo.com, the first case concerns Palmeiras v Fluminense on 25 February. Ferreira was shown a straight red at full time after, per referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima, he addressed assistant Fernanda Gomes Antunes and fourth official Luis Tisne in a harsh manner, gestured and clapped sarcastically, and used offensive words. The referee also wrote that staff had to restrain him, a version Palmeiras disputes.

Immediately after the match, before the report emerged, Ferreira said the fourth official had taken offence over a throw-in he believed was Palmeiras’ and that it was the fourth official who ordered his dismissal.

The next day the club released performance-analysis footage to contest the account, rejecting any argument with assistant Fernanda Gomes Antunes, the alleged ironic applause, and the claim he was held back by colleagues.

The second charge relates to the Choque-Rei between São Paulo and Palmeiras, with Ferreira cited under Article 258, section 2, II, and the club also cited under Article 206.

He was sent off on 33 minutes of the second half for persistently protesting decisions with gestures and words, referee Anderson Daronco reported, adding that after the red he insulted him and kicked the ball in protest.

Ferreira did not attend the post-match press conference that day. Before the sending-off, the club had already agreed he would travel to Portugal to see his family. He served an automatic suspension against Grêmio in the following round.
