AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta hailed Inter star Manuel Akanji after Sunday’s impressive performance against Atalanta.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, the former defender waxed lyrical about the Manchester City loanee.

Manuel Akanji, who joined Inter on a season-long loan in the final hours of the summer transfer window, never ceases to amaze.

Indeed, the 30-year-old has seamlessly slotted into Cristian Chivu’s setup, establishing himself as a regular starter.

Akanji read the game superbly and rarely put a foot wrong throughout the contest last night.

Indeed, he reigned supreme against Atalanta talisman Gianluca Scamacca, keeping the Italian striker at bay.

Therefore, he earned Costacurta’s plaudits, with the Rossoneri icon hailing him as Inter’s most reliable defender.

“Akanji? He’s no surprise to me,” Costacurta stated. “I think he’s been Inter’s most impressive defender and gives a lot of security.

“He brings confidence to everyone around him. Wherever you play him, he performs well. He’s truly a great signing.”

Akanji has fared better than any other summer signing so far.

That’s not a small feat, considering Ange-Yoan Bonny and Francesco Pio Esposito have been remarkable.

However, Akanji’s influence has been unparalleled.

As such, Inter have already decided to activate a buyout option in their loan agreement with Manchester City.

That will see Akanji swap the Premier League for Serie A permanently for a reported fee of €15 million.
