Manchester City fans have been issued with a further u-turn on the future of Kyle Walker amid his ongoing loan spell with AC Milan in Italy.
The England international brought an end to an illustrious stay as Manchester City’s mainstay right-back in the middle of the ongoing campaign amid huge complications for the club across all competitions.
Injuries and fitness problems had been, and continue to be, hampering Pep Guardiola’s options throughout the squad, limiting the competitiveness of the current City group across tournaments and largely ending their hopes of Premier League success in the winter.
In search of a fresh challenge at the midway stage of the season, Manchester City’s appointed captain chose to bring an end to his time at the club by joining AC Milan on a temporary deal until the end of the campaign.
And despite enjoying the change of personal life out in Italy, his on-field performances and a recent serious injury have created doubts as to whether the loan deal could really become a permanent one in the off-season.
However, according to the information of La Gazzetta dello Sport – as translated and relayed by Football Italia – AC Milan are now willing to sign Kyle Walker on a permanent transfer from Manchester City in the summer.
It is once again reminded that Walker’s loan move to Italy included a €5 million option to buy agreed upon by the two clubs in the last January transfer window, with Milan now said to be convinced about making the veteran defender’s move from the Etihad Stadium permanent.
On the other hand, it is revealed that the San Siro club will listen to offers for France international left-back Theo Hernandez, who is unlikely to extend his contract beyond its current expiry date of summer 2026.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed by the Milan club that Kyle Walker would be sidelined for a number of weeks after undergoing surgery on a fractured right elbow, with reports in the days that followed indicating that a permanent deal was less likely, perhaps as a result.
For Manchester City, they are unlikely to reintegrate Kyle Walker into their first-team set-up even if the player did return to the club in the summer, instead looking to progress their other options and strengthen through transfer reinforcement.
One possible target that would likely free-up more movement in defence could see Manchester City bring in Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus, while Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie is another player admired by those within the Etihad Stadium.
