Yesterday, Phil Foden became the youngest Manchester City player to make 200 appearances in the Premier League. Foden put in a polished performance in midfield to help his team pick up an important 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Etihad. Across 200 appearances in the Premier League, Phil Foden’s class has, and continues to shine through. He is playing a new role this season, and the England international is now maturing into the player he has always appeared destined to become at Manchester City.
Across his Manchester City career, we have seen Phil Foden shine on either wing, as a number ten and drifting centrally from the right wing. He has already won six Premier League titles and 18 major trophies across his career. Foden has been an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side ever since making his breakthrough into the City first-team. After a disappointing 24/25 season, Foden looks to be back to his best this season. Playing in midfield seems to have brought the best out of Foden. He is quickly becoming a quality Premier League midfielder, which was on display against Bournemouth.

Foden was one of Manchester City’s most important players during their win at the Etihad Stadium over Bournemouth. He played a crucial role in midfield for his team. Foden linked up the play superbly well, and his combination play with Rayan Cherki, Nico, Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku, and Erling Haaland was key to City’s win. Foden has also added the necessary ‘dirty’ work to his game to potentially become an elite midfielder. He picked up a yellow card yesterday when breaking up a Bournemouth attack. It is clear to see that Foden has served his apprenticeship, learning what is expected to play in midfield for Manchester City. Those lessons are now being put to work on the pitch by Foden, and he put in an important performance against Bournemouth to help his team pick up a pivotal three points.
Phil Foden made his 200th Premier League appearance for Manchester City yesterday during his team’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth. Foden is continuing to show the class that has defined his young career, and he is now applying it to a new role. If Foden can play in midfield with the class and talent he has displayed across the first 200 Premier League appearances throughout the remainder of his career, he could go down as one of the greatest players to ever play in the Premier League and for Manchester City.
