The Eagles’ midfield metronome could miss the club’s first Conference League group stage outing

Adam Wharton is expected to be out for around three weeks with an adductor injury.

Wharton, who has withdrawn from England duty, pulled up in the 55th minute of Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

That prognosis could see him miss Premier League outings against Sunderland, West Ham, and Crystal Palace, with a Conference League group stage trip to face Dynamo Kyiv in early October also in the balance.

Wharton, who was sidelined for three months with a groin injury last season, has started all six of Palace’s games so far this season.

Palace presided over a chaotic end to a frustrating summer transfer window yesterday, and Wharton’s injury will have only added to the frustration within the club that they couldn’t get more deals over the line.

Palace kept hold of captain Marc Guehi, cancelling his move to Liverpool at the eleventh hour as they were unable to sign a replacement.

The Eagles also brought in Christantus Uche from Getafe on loan with a mandatory purchase option.
