Adel Taarabt has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37.

According to L'Équipe, the former Morocco international won 30 caps and scored 4 goals, and had been out of the top level since a 2022 move to the United Arab Emirates.

He joined Tottenham in 2007 at 17 after two appearances for Lens, his formative club, and initially struggled before blossoming at Queens Park Rangers.

His 2010-2011 campaign proved electric, returning 19 goals and 16 assists, earning Championship Player of the Year and sealing promotion to the Premier League. He almost became one of PSG’s first signings after the QSI takeover.

He remained at QPR for two further seasons, then had loan spells at Fulham and AC Milan with limited success.

He later signed for Benfica, spending two seasons with the reserves after behaviour problems, then moving on loan to Genoa from January 2017 to 2018.

An unexpected resurgence brought three full seasons at Benfica from 2019 to 2022, earning a Morocco recall in September 2019 after five years out, though he never played at a World Cup.
