The 56-year-old Austrian will take over the role of head coach at Eintracht Frankfurt from 1 July 2026. Hütter has signed a contract until 30 June 2029.
It’s a return to the club for Adi Hütter, who had a successful spell in Frankfurt between July 2018 and June 2021. He led the Eagles to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League in his first season, winning all six group matches along the way. Eintracht reached the last four of the DFB Cup 12 months later before securing a return to the Europa League in 2020/21.
After his first stint in the Frankfurt dugout, Hütter coached fellow Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach for one season before joining Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. Under the Austrian, the Red and Whites finished runners-up in the 2023/24 season and then third the following year. Previously, Hütter was also very successful in his native Austria and Switzerland, winning the double of the league and cup with FC Salzburg and guiding BSC Young Boys to the Swiss Super League title as well as the final of the Swiss Cup.
Christian Peintinger and Klaus Schmidt join as assistants
Christian Peintinger and Klaus Schmidt will be part of the new coaching team as assistant coaches. Peintinger, a UEFA A Licence holder, already worked alongside Hütter during his first tenure at Eintracht and then at Gladbach and Monaco. Schmidt joined his staff later in the principality. The 58-year-old Austrian holds the UEFA Pro Licence and worked as a head coach and assistant coach for many years in his home country following his playing career. Jan Zimmermann will remain as goalkeeper coach.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Adi Hütter stands for brave attacking football, clarity and discipline. He’s shown in his career that he can combine fast-paced transitional play with possession – especially at Monaco, where he so effectively developed and stabilised one of the youngest teams in the league that they were able to establish themselves among the elite in France. After very good talks, we are convinced that we can advance Eintracht together. It’s an advantage that Adi knows the structures, the environment and the people in and around the club, and won’t really need a settling-in period. We had a very candid discussion, during which Adi not only demonstrated his proven expertise but also gave us the impression that he is eager and passionate about making a difference at Eintracht once again.”
Adi Hütter: “For me it’s very special and emotional to be coach at Eintracht again. The time we had together in Frankfurt left a big impression on me and has always stayed with me. Looking back, I always had the feeling of having unfinished business. I’m therefore all the more pleased to get the opportunity to tackle this task with a lot of hard work, discipline and a clear focus. The club’s journey in recent years is remarkable. We will do everything to ensure that the team delights the fans next season and we have a successful season.”
