Flamengo will never forget Adílio, a cornerstone of the club’s 1981 Libertadores and world triumphs. The beloved midfielder, who died in 2024 after pancreatic cancer, would have turned 70 on Friday 15 May.

As reported by Coluna Do Fla, he was part of the club’s golden generation led by Zico, a side that put the Rubro-Negro on the Brazilian and global stage. Their performances captivated supporters far beyond Rio.

Beyond the Libertadores and the world crown, Adílio lifted the Brasileirão in 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1987. He also collected numerous state honours.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘Brown’ by Flamengo fans, he wore the famous shirt in 617 matches and scored 129 goals. His legacy rests in both silverware and decisive contributions.

After retiring, Adílio stayed close to the club as president of FlaMaster, the team that unites former players. The role kept him active and helped connect generations of idols.
