Vasco have stepped up their pursuit of Santiago Sosa, with director of football Admar Lopes travelling to Argentina to handle the final phase. Personal terms with the 27-year-old and his camp are agreed, with only an agreement between clubs outstanding.

According to Canal do Pedrosa, a meeting is scheduled between today, 27 July, and tomorrow, 28 July, with Racing’s hierarchy to settle the payment structure for the midfielder. Such talks typically precede an announcement.

Unlike other protracted chases this window, negotiations for Sosa have moved cleanly. With salary and sporting plan aligned, the Buenos Aires summit has a single focus, how Vasco will pay for the deal. Lopes’ presence underscores the priority the club has placed on the player.

The trip is also being used to progress an attacking midfielder, a role flagged as a shortcoming in the squad. The aim is to unlock that addition while the executive team is in Argentina.

Sosa is a defensive midfielder who can cover at centre-back. An academy product of River Plate, he had a spell at Atlanta United and joined Racing in January 2024, where he is a regular and leader. He is under contract until December 2027.

With the executive on the ground, Vasco enter the decisive stretch of talks. The expectation is that clarity on payment terms emerges during this two-day window, and supporters hope the trip yields more than one reinforcement.
