Manchester United are reportedly currently holding a trial for former Newcastle and Brentford goalkeeper Adrian Janusz.

United potentially hunting for a new academy goalkeeper

United appear to still be looking for a new goalkeeper, following their decision to turn down the chance to sign Abdulla Al-Hammadi.

Al-Hammadi spent several weeks on trial at Carrington, and United were reportedly interested in keeping him following Hubert Graczyk’s departure.

Although he caught the eye of United’s staff, the club made a shock U-turn and opted not to complete a deal for the UAE goalkeeper.

No clear explanation was given for United’s change of stance.

Now, the Daily Mail have revealed that the Red Devils have handed a trial to Janusz, who was named on the bench for the Under-21s away fixture against Everton on Friday night.

Janusz on trial at United

The Daily Mail report, “Adrian Janusz – no, you read that right – was among the substitutes and Confidential understands the free-agent goalkeeper is currently on trial. ”

“United recently had a look at UAE stopper Abdulla Al-Hammadi over a number of weeks but he did not sign a deal.”

“Polish 19-year-old Janusz has bounced around clubs having had spells at Newcastle United – where he trained with the first team on occasion – and Brentford, as well as non-league stints with Gateshead and Ashington.”

Janusz’s name does not appear on United’s official Under-21 or Under-18 team pages, and the club has yet to release an official statement.

However, there’s no doubt he’ll be eager to make an impression if given the chance, as he looks to convince United to keep him on.

United’s Under-21s are back in action on Tuesday, October 21, when they face Barnsley at Oakswell Stadium.
