The closing minutes of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, held Sunday night between Morocco and Senegal, were marked by regrettable incidents in the stands—scenes that remained out of frame during the television broadcast.
Following the penalty awarded to Morocco in the dying seconds of regular time, palpable tension gripped the stadium. In protest, the Senegalese players briefly left the pitch before returning to resume play.
Ibrahim Díaz then missed his attempt from the penalty spot. Ultimately, Senegal managed to clinch their second continental crown thanks to a decisive goal scored by star player Pape Gueye.
When Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala blew the whistle for the penalty in favor of the Atlas Lions, chaos erupted in the sections filled with Senegalese fans.
Some individuals resorted to acts of vandalism, ripping out seats and hurling them towards security forces, event staff, and several journalists present at the venue.
Attempts to invade the pitch and direct clashes with security personnel and organizers were also reported around the field. These scenes of violence and disorder unfortunately marred the image of what was an eagerly anticipated continental final.
