Against Nigeria, one of the favourites to win the tournament, the North African nation were inferior for long stretches of the game. The Super Eagles pushed for the opening goal at the Stade de Marrakech in the first half, but Bensebaini, among others, managed to prevent it with an outstanding clearance on the line in the 30th minute.

In the second half, however, the Algerians were unable to withstand Nigeria's formidable attacking prowess and were deservedly beaten after goals from Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen (47) and Sevilla's Akor Adams (57).

For Ramy Bensebaini, this defeat in the quarter-finals ended his dream of a second Africa Cup of Nations title following 2019. Algeria's national player of the year 2025 will return to Dortmund in the next few days following the team's elimination, although an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
