After Ewen Jaouen, Newcastle close to €30m move for Lukas Hornicek | OneFootball

Newcastle are close to signing young Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, and he would compete with fellow newcomer Ewen Jaouen. According to L'Équipe, the Czech would cost about €30m.

Hornicek is coming off a full season with Braga, who reached the Europa League semi-finals and finished fourth in the league.

He played 55 matches and kept 24 clean sheets.

At Braga since 2020, the 1.98m keeper cemented the starting role midway through last season. He was in the Czech Republic’s 26-man World Cup squad but did not feature.

The Magpies are busy in the market and appear to be reshaping the squad. They are pushing 34-year-old Nick Pope towards the exit, and are close to spending nearly €60m on two young goalkeepers.
