Michel has confirmed his departure from Girona after their relegation to Liga two.

L'Équipe reports the 50-year-old made the announcement on Thursday after five seasons at the club. He could join Ajax Amsterdam, where compatriot Oscar Garcia, appointed in March, is not expected to be retained.

Michel took charge in 2021 and immediately led Girona back to La Liga.

Two years later he delivered a historic third-place finish, securing Champions League football in 2024-2025.

The 2025-2026 campaign ended with eight matches without a win, four draws and four defeats. Girona finished 19th, resulting in relegation.
