Bayern Munich fans can breathe a sigh of relief. 

Dayot Upamecano is now close to signing a new contract at Bayern after months of intense negotiations between the club and his agent.

The French defender has a contract until the end of the season, and several European clubs, including PSG and Real Madrid, have shown interest in signing him.

The French defender played the first half in a friendly match against RB Salzburg, which Bayern won 5-0 on Tuesday.

After the match, Upamecano told reporters that there is no pressure on him and that no deadline has been set for signing the new deal.

The French defender insisted that talks are still ongoing with the club, and he is very positive that a solution will be reached soon.

Upamecano has always maintained that he wants to stay at Bayern, and it looks like a deal will be agreed shortly.

According to Bild, via Christian Falk, Upamecano (27) is close to signing a contract extension with FC Bayern.

The Club and the centre-back reached an agreement on most of the remaining sticking points (signing bonus, release clause), and the final agreement is expected shortly.

Recently, Bayern CEO Jan Christian Dreesen made it clear to Upamecano that he should decide soon whether to extend his contract in Munich.

Dreesen said at the Fanclub ‘De roud-weissen Neifinger’ in Neufahrn: “Upa has received an offer from us, which we have improved upon. This has already been discussed several times with his advisors and now again with him personally.”

Then came the clear message: “I think he should sign what he has on the table now. Because it’s not going to get any better.”

With the agreement now close, Bayern can look forward to securing other important contract extensions, those of Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry.
