Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland meet on Friday for the first time at international level, with first place in Group I on the line. Their club head-to-head spans seven Champions League ties, where Mbappé’s teams have generally prevailed and Haaland has the superior individual return.

According to L'Équipe, the nations last faced each other in 2014, a friendly at the Stade de France that ended 4-0 to Les Bleus. Here is the pair’s club history in order.

2019-20, last 16, Paris-SG 3-2 Borussia Dortmund. Haaland struck twice in Dortmund’s 2-1 first leg on 18 February, while Mbappé assisted Neymar to level on the night. Paris won the return 2-0 behind closed doors on 11 March, Mbappé coming on in the 69th minute.

2024-25, play-offs, Manchester City 3-6 Real Madrid. In Manchester on 11 February 2025, Madrid won 3-2 despite a Haaland brace that included a penalty, Mbappé had made it 1-1. At the Bernabeu on 20 February, Mbappé hit a 3-1 hat-trick, his first in the competition for Real.

2025-26, league phase, Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester City. On 10 December 2025, an injured Mbappé stayed on the bench. Haaland converted a penalty for 2-1 before half-time after Antonio Rüdiger’s foul, a result that later helped City finish 8th and qualify directly while Real, 9th, went to the play-offs.

2025-26, last 16, Real Madrid 5-1 Manchester City. After eliminating Benfica in the play-offs (1-0, 2-1), Real won 3-0 at home on 11 March as Federico Valverde scored a treble, Mbappé was out with a left knee ligament issue. Six days later at the Etihad, Haaland equalised before the break, but City lost 2-1 to a late Vinícius double, Mbappé came on in the 69th minute.

Overall: seven meetings, five wins for Mbappé and two for Haaland. Goals: Haaland six, Mbappé four. Mbappé missed two games, Haaland one.
