Joost Blaauwhof has revealed that Carlos Vicente has decided to join Birmingham City instead of Ajax. The Alaves winger is expected to join Birmingham City on Monday and earn more money than he would have earned if he had decided to join Ajax. With Raul Moro leaving Ajax for Osasuna, Vicente would have acted as a replacement. However, the lure of the Eredivisie was clearly not as strong as the lure of the Championship and Birmingham City. With 29 games gone in the second tier of English football, Birmingham City are 13th, just six points adrift of Wrexham in the final play-off spot.
Vicente scored on his final game in La Liga as he bid farewell to Deportivo Alaves. Ajax are missing out on a player who has played 82 games for Alaves, scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists. Prior to playing for Alaves, Vicente spent time at Racing de Ferrol in La Liga 2 and the third tier of Spanish football. With 10 goals and three assists this season, Birmingham City are getting a player who has thrived in La Liga over the past few months. Ajax will be disappointed they were unable to bring Vincente to Amsterdam.
