Al Ahli ‘to offer’ €26m for Thiago Almada after below-par Atlético season | OneFootball

Al Ahli have set their sights on Thiago Almada after a below-par season with Atlético Madrid.

TyC Sports reports that the Saudi club are lining up an offer of around €26m to persuade Atlético to release the Argentina international.

Benfica tracked the midfielder closely last summer before he moved to Madrid, but lost out to Atlético. The Spanish club paid about €25m for 50 per cent of his rights while he was at Botafogo, landing a highly rated South American prospect.

Almada struggled for a regular role under Diego Simeone, making 40 appearances in all competitions with four goals and two assists. He was withdrawn at half-time in the most recent meeting with Osasuna.

Al Ahli are seeking to capitalise by adding his technical quality and international experience. If interest and a formal bid are confirmed, Almada could become the latest high-profile arrival in Saudi football, with local clubs continuing to invest in players from leading European leagues.
