Al-Hilal legend Sami Al-Jaber has condemned the officiating in Al-Ahli’s 1-1 draw with Al-Fayha, arguing the decisions damaged the contest’s integrity and left Al-Ahli feeling wronged in favour of Al-Nassr.

The Saudi Pro League meeting on Wednesday, Round 29, finished level after a string of contentious moments, including the referee’s failure to give two penalties to Al-Ahli. According to Goal.com, Al-Jaber told the Saudi programme Nadina that if Al-Ahli fans feel aggrieved, the side have indeed been treated unfairly to the benefit of title rivals Al-Nassr.

He said Al-Ahli should answer by beating Al-Nassr in their next match. He also maintained the title race is not over and that every team still has a chance.

Al-Jaber urged the Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s Referees’ Committee to open an investigation, particularly after English striker Ivan Toney publicly accused the match official. He added that, away from social media noise, Al-Ahli were wronged, the laws were not applied and the referee should face punishment if found culpable.

He further said the penalty error cannot be ignored and called on the federation to settle the issue.

The draw has reshaped the race, leaving Al-Ahli on 66 points in third, two behind Al-Hilal. Al-Hilal thrashed Al-Khulood 6-0 to close in on leaders Al-Nassr, who are scheduled to meet Al-Akhdoud on Saturday evening. Al-Ahli have slipped a place, yet with six rounds remaining their title hopes are still alive.
