Alan Shearer has urged Newcastle United to sell Anthony Gordon this summer if he is not committed to the St James’ Park club.

The Magpies star has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich in recent days, and failure to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season could see Newcastle lose him.

Gordon reportedly wants his future sorted before the World Cup and is open to an exit as he wants to regularly challenge for major trophies and play in the elite European competition.

However, the 25-year-old has yet to tell Newcastle he wants out, and the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer believes both parties may have to move on in the summer if there are no guarantees Gordon wants to remain at SJP.

Shearer said: “I don’t know what Anthony Gordon’s feelings are but I always say, if someone doesn’t want to be here, then you have to get them out.

“I don’t know whether he wants that or not, I honestly don’t know, only he can answer that.

“I said it with the Isak situation. If someone doesn’t want to be there, you’re better off getting someone out, and getting someone in who wants to be there who is 100 per cent committed.

“I’m not saying Gordon isn’t, I’m just saying only he can answer that, and if he doesn’t, then he has to be sold.”

The Magpies want at least £80 million for the English attacker, and whether any of his suitors are open to paying that much for him remains to be seen.

The likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes are also likely to seek to leave if Newcastle miss out on European football.

The club also have to sell one or two of their key players should that happen, and the uncertainty over the future of manager Eddie Howe is also expected to play a significant role in the decisions of some players.

Newcastle are currently 14th in the Premier League table after 32 games and may need to win four of their remaining six games to secure European football for next season.
