Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has predicted the outcome of Manchester United’s Monday meeting with Everton, and it’s not what Michael Carrick and supporters will want to hear.
United will head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium looking to return to winning ways, after West Ham brought Michael Carrick’s perfect start to an end with a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium in their last outing.
Before the West Ham game, Carrick had guided United to four consecutive victories. This run included wins over Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.
While the result against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men is ultimately not what the Red Devils wanted, it didn’t do much damage as United still remained in fourth place and ensured that Carrick has yet to taste defeat since he was named as Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement.
Just like West Ham did, David Moyes is likely to deploy a low block in an effort to frustrate United.
Speaking to club media ahead of the match, Carrick warned his players that Everton will make the contest as hostile as possible.
Carrick called on his squad to step up and embrace the challenge. The pressure on United to win has intensified after Chelsea and Aston Villa both dropped points on Saturday.
A victory for United will leave them three points above Chelsea and three points adrift of Unai Emery’s men.
But Shearer does not think United will secure the three points, predicting that the spoils are likely to be shared in Merseyside.
Shearer told the Metro, “It is a tough one.”
“But I think the atmosphere will be amazing and it’ll be tough for Man United regardless the good the good form they are in.”
The former Newcastle man added, “I think I’m going to say a draw.”
Everton vs. United kicks off at 8pm.
