Boca Juniors’ opening win in the Torneo Apertura 2026 has been overshadowed by a serious knee injury to Alan Velasco, who faces around two months out.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, tests showed a grade two sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

The forward was hurt during the debut against Riestra. Initially it was thought to be a heavy knock likely to rule him out of Sunday’s match at Estudiantes de La Plata, but scans revealed a more complex issue.

He is set to miss around 10 matches, including clásicos with Racing and San Lorenzo, most of the regular phase of the domestic competition, and the Copa Argentina tie.

Coach Claudio Úbeda must now reshuffle. Brian Aguirre is the natural replacement, though his situation is complicated by negotiations involving Santiago Ascacibar. Kevin Zenón offers experience in possession, while youngster Iker Zufiaurre provides freshness and individual threat.

Boca travel to La Plata on Wednesday with three points secured, but without a player who had established himself in the starting XI.
