Albert Riera has called for patience as Eintracht Frankfurt’s slump persists, with signs pointing to a separation after next week’s game against VfB Stuttgart. They have taken only one point from four matches following defeat at Borussia Dortmund.

Sky reported this week that the club had made an internal decision to part company with the Spaniard. Riera, 44, maintained a positive outlook after the loss.

He said time was essential, and that with more of it he would continue improving the squad. Without it, he added, he would simply try to get the best out of the team in every game.

Riera argued Frankfurt could have taken more points if they reproduced Friday’s display more often. He outlined three focuses, senior players elevating the young, a united approach, and compactness in attack and defence, and praised commitment, leadership, communication and positivity.

Sporting director Markus Krösche, 45, questioned the mentality after the defeat. He called the result extremely annoying and said the task now was to win against Stuttgart.

Krösche stressed Riera will remain in charge for the final home match, after which his future will be discussed. Freiburg can secure seventh ahead of Eintracht with a win either against HSV or RB Leipzig.
