Demetrio Albertini has been linked with a role at AC Milan ahead of next season, and following his departure from the FIGC, the club legend has confirmed that he won’t be leaving football.

Since 2019, Albertini has been working as the President of the Technical Sector at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), but that era has now come to an end. The former Milan man resigned from his position recently and confirmed that his cycle at the FIGC has come to an end.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, the 53-year-old confirmed that he won’t pick up another role within the FIGC. He did, however, specify that he won’t be leaving football altogether, which suggests that there is a new job in the pipeline: “I’m leaving Coverciano, but not football. I considered my cycle at the FIGC closed,” he stated.

Last month, Calciomercato.com reported that Albertini is a candidate for the ‘new Milan’, with the club looking at appointing a ‘Head of Football’ figure. Massimo Ambrosini is also a candidate as Milan are looking for someone with a lot of experience in the Italian ecosystem.

It remains to be seen if Milan will open talks with the two, or if they already have, but the timing of Albertini’s departure from the FIGC is certainly worth noting.
