A hugely disappointing performance at the Den ended with the Baggies’ biggest league defeat since they lost 3-0 at Hillsborough in April 2024. Albion haven’t lost in the league by a bigger margin since April 2022 when Steve Bruce’s team lost 4-0 at Nottingham Forest.

It leaves the Baggies in seventh place as they head into the second international break of the season, and it poses plenty of questions for Mason and the coaching staff to consider before the team takes to the field again at home to Preston North End in a fortnight’s time.

It extends the Baggies’ winless run against Millwall to nine games in all competitions, with their last victory coming during Storm Ciara in February 2020 thanks to goals from Filip Krovinović and Dara O’Shea. That remains Albion’s only victory at the Lions’ current home.
