The two Argentines earned cult hero status during their respective spells at Loftus Road

Queens Park Rangers and their supporters haven't exactly been able to taste success in the past decade, although they will be hoping such fortunes change in the near future under the management of Julien Stephan.

The 2026/27 Championship season will be the Frenchman's second term at Loftus Road after being appointed in place of Marti Cifuentes, who himself had endured mixed fortunes in W12.

Last season saw the Hoops begin in below-par form, which included a 7-1 loss at eventual champions, Coventry City, before embarking on a strong run of results in late 2025, which appeared to have put the 45-year-old's outfit in with a chance of reaching the play-off places for the first time since their last relegation from the Premier League 11 years ago.

However, that didn't exactly turn out to be the case, as a handful of injury issues to key players, including top scorer, Rumarn Burrell, and another regression in form after the turn of the year saw Rangers end their latest second tier season with a 15th-placed finish, including a run of six games without a win to round off the campaign.

With the Championship now undergoing a restructure in terms of finances and the play-offs, it remains to be seen if the side from the capital can eventually assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with, which is exactly what happened during Alejandro Faurlin's time at the club.

Indeed, the Argentinian midfielder is one of the most-loved players of recent generations in West London, having played a key role in their Championship title-winning season of 2010/11 under Neil Warnock in particular.

Unsurprisingly, the feeling of love from the supporters towards Faurlin is still reciprocated, and that was once again the case as he was seen with a compatriot and yet another modern-day QPR icon on social media.

Indeed, Faurlin was acquired from Instituto, a then-second division side in Argentina, for a reported initial fee of £3.5m, although it would controversially emerge years later that the West London outfit didn't pay any fee to sign the deep-lying midfielder.

The Rosario native went on to feature 163 times for the club during a seven-year spell, with the bulk of those appearances coming in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, with injury issues limiting his availability during the three campaigns in which Rangers were a Premier League side, before eventually departing in 2016.

His move to Loftus Road came four years after the exit of fellow Argentine, Gino Padula, who initially signed a one-year contract in 2002 after previously plying his trade with Walsall and Wigan Athletic.

In his first season, QPR lost what is now the League One play-off final to Cardiff City at the Millennium Stadium, before returning to the Championship the season after with a final-day win at Sheffield Wednesday, which the left-back went on to describe as one of the "best moments" in his life.

Padula played 90 times in a three-year spell for the club, and Faurlin has now been spotted with him in a holiday resort, posting the caption: "qpr family look who i come across. gino gino gino!"

With England facing Faurlin and Padula's home nation in a World Cup semi-final on Wednesday, the timing of this particular post does feel somewhat ironic in that sense, but the clash between the Three Lions and the reigning world champions hasn't stopped Rangers fans from reacting in an expected manner to their reunion.

Indeed, QPR's official X account replied with a blue and white heart emoji to make the club's overall feelings clear, whilst one supporter commented: "Good to see you and Gino looking so well. And that Gino still has a magnificent head of hair!"

And, clearly thrilled to see them together, another supporter responded with the simple message of: "That is class."
