Argentine has not reported for pre-season training as he searches for next club
Xabi Alonso has admitted that there is interest from other clubs in signing Alejandro Garnacho this summer after the Chelsea winger missed the start of pre-season last week.
Garnacho was a surprise omission from pre-season training last Thursday as Chelsea kicked off their preparations for next season.
The Argentinian has been linked with a move away from Chelsea just a year after joining in a £40million deal from Manchester United, with Standard Sport reporting that he was available for sale for around £43m.
Chelsea would prefer a permanent sale, rather than a loan deal, with a host of clubs in the Premier League, Serie A, the Saudi Pro League and other European leagues interested in the 22-year-old.
Garnacho, who scored eight goals in all competitions last season, wants regular minutes next season.
Asked about Garnacho’s absence from training, Alonso revealed that the club’s sporting directors were exploring interest from other clubs.
“We have spoken with the sports directors, and there is an interest from him, from other clubs, so let's see how it develops,” Alonso said as he was unveiled as Chelsea manager at Stamford Bridge on Monday afternoon.
Alonso was also asked about Nicolas Jackson, who spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, but offered a more optimistic outlook on his Chelsea prospects.
The Senegalese forward is currently on holiday following Senegal’s exit from the World Cup, but is expected to join the rest of his Chelsea team-mates for their pre-season tour of Australia, Asia and New Zealand.
“He is joining in the tour that we are starting in Asia, and we are looking forward to start with Nico at that time.”
