Despite already having three new defenders to reinforce their backline going into the next season, Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries, and Ibrahima Konate, Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid to sign another center-back before the end of this summer transfer window.
To fulfill his request, the Merengues have been keeping an eye on several interesting names in the market, and have been linked with the likes of Nico Schlotterbeck and Alessandro Bastoni. However, the German suffered an injury during the World Cup, and thus has been ruled out as a potential signing this summer.
Meanwhile, the Italian has also moved away from Los Blancos in recent weeks. In fact, as Bein Sports has reported, his agent, Tullio Tinti, recently spoke to Sky Sport Italy and indicated that his client might not leave Inter Milan this summer.
In addition to Real Madrid, the Italian center-back has also been linked with the Saudi side Al-Hilal, where his former coach Simone Inzaghi is in charge. However, Tinti made it clear that Bastoni loves Inter, and might remain at the Nerazzurri side for the remaining two years of his contract:
“My players and I generally respect our contracts… Bastoni still has two years left; he’s in love with Inter… He’s not thinking of moving to another club. If two clubs are interested, one might start talking. But all this talk isn’t enough for a serious negotiation right now.”
The agent went on to make it clear that despite his recent difficulties in Italy, the defender is not looking to play in another league:
“Has he considered leaving Italy? I don’t think so; maybe I would have thought so. He has a strong personality. Life has its good and bad times, but he’s managed to come out on top.”
There have been no recent updates on the Italian center-back’s links with Real Madrid, and now these comments from his agent further indicate that he is unlikely to play under Jose Mourinho next season.
Thus, with both Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck out of their plans, it remains to be seen which center-back Real Madrid will sign in the summer transfer window to fulfill Jose Mourinho’s request, or whether they will make do with the players they already have for this role.
