Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has finally spoken up about the ongoing transfer saga after refusing to play for the Magpies.
The Newcastle centre-forward was supposed to be at the PFA Awards tonight, where he is a nominee and made the team of the season, but opted not to attend.
Isak went on Instagram to explain his absence and somewhat clarify his situation with the Magpies. He alluded to promises being broken, presumably by Newcastle.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue,” he wrote via his Instagram page.
Newcastle have been fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of Isak amid interest from Liverpool in his services.
The Magpies knocked back Liverpool’s first approach for the former Borussia Dortmund centre-forward before the Reds went to sign Hugo Ekitike.
It did not help that Newcastle had also been eyeing Ekitike as a potential target.
Still, Liverpool are tracking Isak, but Newcastle have refused to budge on their £150 million valuation, leaving Isak frustrated.
Isak wants to leave the Tyneside outfit before the close of the window, but with the player and the club in this stand-off, it remains to be seen what will happen next.
Isak did not feature for Newcastle versus Aston Villa in the Premier League curtain-raiser on Saturday. He didn’t feature once during pre-season.
This weekend promises to be interesting as Newcastle take on Liverpool at St. James’ Park.
With tensions boiling over and Liverpool looming on the horizon, all eyes will be on what Newcastle does next with Isak. This saga could take another dramatic twist.
