Liverpool are making significant progress in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, with talks between the Premier League club and Newcastle United described as advancing well, according to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Isak, 25, is said to be hopeful that a full agreement can soon be reached between the two clubs, with a British record bid likely required to prise the Swedish striker away from St James’ Park. Newcastle remain firm in their valuation - given their lack of desire to sell - but negotiations are ongoing and constructive.
It has been claimed that Liverpool have already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Isak’s representatives over personal terms. The proposed contract would run until 2031, signalling a long-term investment from the Anfield club in one of the Premier League’s most sought-after forwards.
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has developed into a key figure for the Magpies, scoring consistently and playing a central role in their recent Carabao Cup success and qualification for the Champions League.
His form has attracted the interest of several top clubs across in the Premier League, but Liverpool appear to be leading the race.
Should a deal be finalised, Isak would become Liverpool’s most expensive signing, surpassing the £116 million fee agreed for Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer.
