Alexandre Lauray has agreed a conditional contract extension with Le Mans after wearing the armband to start their Ligue 1 campaign.
According to L'Équipe, the 29-year-old Frenchman, at the club since summer 2021, is valued for his ability to play in midfield or at centre-back. With nine midfielders in the squad and the window hours from closing, Le Mans do not plan to keep everyone, but Lauray remains central to this season’s plans.
He is under contract until the end of next season and his terms have been improved. The agreement allows him to extend by one or two further seasons if he reaches a set number of appearances.
It reflects faith in the vice-captain, who led the side in a 2-2 draw with Brest, then against Rennes in a 2-3 defeat.
He took the armband in the absence of Samuel Yohou, sidelined with a thigh injury, while Edwin Quarshie is no longer in Patrick Videira’s plans.
