Alexandre Mattos backs Cuca after Santos’ Brasileirão defeat | OneFootball

Alexandre Mattos has defended head coach Cuca after Santos lost to Fluminense in the 12th round of the Brasileirão.

As reported by Diario Do Peixe, assistant Cuquinha was on the touchline with Cuca suspended. Since his return, the coach has overseen seven matches, with two wins, two draws and three defeats.

Mattos said responsibility for the current run should be shared by him and the players, stressing that Cuca has only just arrived and that the club retain strong confidence in the coaching staff.

He argued the team have improved but still have issues to fix, adding that a congested schedule has left little time to train, with games falling on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Santos are 15th in the league on 13 points, one ahead of Corinthians, the first side in the relegation places.

They host Coritiba in the Copa do Brasil at Vila Belmiro on Wednesday 22 at 19:30, then return to Brasileirão action at the weekend against Bahia.
