Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has said he is in no rush to open talks over a new contract.
The Argentine midfielder is part-way through a long-term deal with the club, which expires in the summer of 2028.
Liverpool are in a period of transition, though, with more squad investment expected in the coming months after this season’s underwhelming Premier League title defence.
Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was handed a new long-term deal earlier this week, but Mac Allister said he himself is yet to be approached over a new deal.
“We are not in contract talks but I’m not in a rush,” he explained. “That’s only a fact.”
He continued, saying he was happy to see Gravenberch extend his Anfield stay: “I want to congratulate Ryan as it’s really good for him and he deserves it.
“He’s been a really important player for us in the season we won the Premier League which is not easy at all, so congratulations to him.”
It is not yet clear how long Gravenberch’s new contract will run.
Mac Allister was speaking from Istanbul ahead of a Champions League round of 16 clash against Galatasaray, who threatened to derail Liverpool’s campaign after beating them in the league phase.
Liverpool’s Champions League triumph in 2019 predated Mac Allister’s tenure with the side, and he has set his sights on lifting European football’s top club honour this season.
"It's my dream right now,” he said of Champions League glory. “It's a World Cup year so why not win it twice! But Champions League is important goal this season."
