Macca, 26, can count himself as a Premier League title winner following his stunning displays in the 2024/25 season - helping the Anfield club to their 20th top-flight title.

Alexis Mac Allister names Liverpool's 'Messi'

TNT Sports recently sat down for an “ask me anything” session with the Reds’ No10 - where he covered everything from Mohamed Salah’s lifestyle secrets and the Alexander Isak transfer saga to the peculiarities of the Scouse accent.

But one name came up time and again in the fan-led interview. Lionel Messi. Mac Allister was asked if he’d ever spoken to Messi about Liverpool and if he texted his international captain on his downtime.

But one intriguing element popped up during the closing “quick fire” segment of the interview.

Mac Allister praises Messi-like Dembele

The former Boca Juniors schemer was asked which player had reminded him MOST of Lionel Messi.

“Closest player to Messi you’ve played with or against?” ran the prompt.

And Alexis took his task very seriously - considering Ousmane Dembele from Paris Saint-Germain as the closest player to Messi’s level in the opposition ranks.

The France World Cup winner was indeed in terrific form when Liverpool played the European champions in last season’s Champions League.

“When we played PSG away, Ousmane Dembélé was at a really high level,” he admitted.

Diaz is up there says Macca

But he also dropped a LIVERPOOL-linked name - and someone that the Reds actually sold over the summer.

“And I’d put Luis Díaz up there too—he’s so hard to mark, even in training. I’ve had to give him a couple of tackles!”

Liverpool opted to part ways with the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window. He moved to Bayern Munich for around £65m - with the club unwilling or unable to meet the Colombian’s transfer demands.

It perhaps demonstrates how highly rated Diaz was inside the club - even if fans were occasionally frustrated by his end product.
