Real Madrid’s search for midfield reinforcements continues to generate speculation, but one of the club’s long-standing targets does not appear any closer to arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has once again been linked with a move to the Spanish capital following another impressive campaign, yet fresh comments from his father have poured cold water on reports suggesting negotiations are already underway.

While Real Madrid are known to admire the Argentina international, the latest update suggests there has been no direct contact between the two parties, with any potential deal remaining in the realm of speculation.

Mac Allister’s father dismisses Real Madrid rumours

Speaking to 365Scores (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Alexis Mac Allister’s father, Carlos Mac Allister, categorically denied claims that discussions have taken place with Real Madrid.

“We have not spoken to any Real Madrid officials; the rumours circulating that we are in talks with Real Madrid are not true,” he began.

He also reaffirmed the midfielder’s current commitment to Liverpool, making it clear that there has been no change in the player’s immediate plans.

“Alexis still has two seasons left on his contract with Liverpool.”

“For now, he’ll take a few days’ rest and then return to play in the Premier League; that’s the current situation.”

Although the rumours have been dismissed, Real Madrid’s appreciation for Mac Allister has not disappeared.

The World Cup-winning midfielder has been monitored by the club for some time thanks to his technical quality, tactical intelligence and ability to control matches. 

However, admiration has never been the biggest obstacle. Rather, Liverpool consider Mac Allister one of the foundations of their project at Anfield, making any negotiations extremely complicated even if Real Madrid were to formalise their interest. 

The financial demands involved in such an operation also make a transfer difficult, particularly while the Spanish giants continue prioritising player sales before committing to another major signing.

Hence, for now, there is no indication that discussions between the clubs have progressed beyond long-standing interest.
