Ali Ahmed believes that he still has another level to reach after a strong opening to his Norwich career

Norwich City's first transfer window under Philippe Clement was an incredible success, with three permanent additions who could excel in their first full year at Carrow Road in 2026/27.

Mohamed Toure lit up the Canaries attack when fit, Paris Maghoma was a solid lynchpin in Clement's midfield, but arguably, the one addition who has the most capabilities to be a top player for a promotion-challenging side immediately is Canadian winger Ali Ahmed.

The 25-year-old was one of the first arrivals midway through the campaign, signing from MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, where he'd played his entire professional career after coming through their academy.

Ahmed scored four and assisted three in just 16 second-tier starts on the left wing, and was a driving force in the strong 2026 at Carrow Road, in which Norwich picked up the second most points in the division behind Southampton.

The Canadian international is currently representing his country at a home World Cup, and he, alongside fellow EFL star Cyle Larin, helped spur a comeback in their opening group game against Bosnia and Herzegovina and secure their first ever point at the biggest tournament in football.

Ahmed is a late bloomer into the professional game. He signed his first permanent contract with Vancouver in November 2022, just a month after he turned 22.

Therefore, he's had a lot of catching up to do compared to some of his peers, who have been professionals since they were teenagers, but he seems to be doing well so far, if his half-campaign in the Championship is anything to go by.

The 25-year-old believes that there is still more to come from him, though.

"I'm 25, but I've only really had three years [as a professional] — three and a half years," he said, per the Pink Un.

"I think every year as time goes by I am definitely progressing and growing and hitting different milestones. For sure, I think it'd be fair to say that there's still more to come.

"I haven't really hit my peak, or really done anything, you know? There's a lot of room to grow."

Ahmed will be hoping for a strong World Cup campaign with his country this summer. Canada have already bettered their previous two campaigns in Mexico in 1986 and Qatar in 2022, where they crashed out of the group stage with no points.

They picked up their first point against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, and will look to back that up with a win over Qatar this evening, which would all but certainly ensure that Jesse Marsch's side qualifies for the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Norwich City can get excited over Ali Ahmed admission

Ahmed's seven goal contributions in just 19 league appearances gave Norwich fans something to look forward to next season, as the Canadian winger looked set to better that in his first full year in the Canaries fold.

Seeing the belief that the 25-year-old has, though, will only stoke that anticipation about what he can do at Carrow Road next year.

Norwich are well-regarded as a dark horse for a promotion push in 2026/27, after their incredible turnaround under Philippe Clement following a diastrous start under Liam Manning this past season, which left them second-bottom in November.

With a full pre-season behind the Belgian boss and a transfer window hopefully akin to the one seen in January, the Canaries are a frightening prospect heading into next season, especially if the likes of Ahmed and Toure have good World Cup campaigns, too.

The new term can't come quickly enough at Carrow Road. The best is yet to come from Ahmed, and that can also ring true about the rest of Philippe Clement's side as well.
