Alisson hails Jacquet and Araujo as Liverpool’s new defensive rocks after recent clean sheets | OneFootball

Alisson Becker has praised summer signings Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo for making Liverpool 'more solid defensively'.

Liverpool battled to a 1-0 win at Bournemouth in thePremier League at the weekend, ensuring the Reds head into the international break unbeaten.

Andoni Iraola's side have recorded three consecutive clean sheets in thePremier League, and Alisson believes the new recruits have strengthened the side.

Jacquet picked up the man-of-the-match award at Bournemouth, as the 21-year-old continued an impressive adaptation to English football. Araujo has also impressed while deputising at right-back, following his season-long loan move from Barcelona.

Alisson praised the pair and said Liverpool are 'really happy' to have the summer recruits in a new-look backline.

“I think Jeremy played really well. Virgil, the back four, Ronald [Araujo], Milos [Kerkez], the midfielders as well helped us a lot defensively. Everybody fights a lot," Alisson toldliverpoolfc.com.

“Jeremy, so much quality of course, but I don’t think it’s the hardest job in the world to play alongside Virgil van Dijk! Virgil helped him a lot as well.

“I tried to help Ronald as well, someone who came to make us more solid defensively, and he’s delivering as well. So, we are really happy to have them in our side.”

Alisson also played his part in the latest clean sheet, with a brilliant reactive save from Evanilson's first-half flick.

Wrong-footed, the Brazilian got down low to turn the effort around the post and keep the game goalless. Discussing his save, Alisson said it's important that he remains focused for 90 minutes.

"I think at big clubs you’re not going to have much to do sometimes and then you need to be ready to make one save that can help the team.

“That’s part of my job, I’m there for it. I’m happy that this afternoon it contributed to the three points and to getting the clean sheet.

“But well done from the defenders as well, the team [showed] a really good fight. Again, not the cleanest performance, we have to improve a lot on the ball, sometimes without the ball as well.

“But we improved in the second half, that’s what you need to do as well in games: adapt to the opponent, to what the opponent is doing, to the difficulties you have in the match, and then fight against it and to get the result.”
