Milan haven’t been able to keep up with Inter in the Scudetto race but have had a much better season under the steady guidance of Massimiliano Allegri. They are well on their way to qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, but the coach isn’t so certain to stay put, Sportitalia reports.
The gaffer has seen a few things he hasn’t liked this year and is debating whether to stick around or opt for a fairly shocking exit. He has no problems with the players, but he has more than a few doubts regarding the front office.
In particular, Allegri thinks there’s a lot of confusion behind the scenes at Milan. He’s unsure about who’s really calling the shots and who his proper interlocutors should be. He’s unhappy with some of the transfer market choices and hasn’t developed much of a relationship with consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic and CEO Giorgio Furlani.
The former Juventus manager signed a two-year contract with two annual options that would automatically be triggered by winning the title, Il Messaggero reports. Since it’s not long-term per se, the parties can get out of it rather easily. He has a €5.5M salary plus bonuses.
It’d be a stunner, as, while some reservations about his style remain, he has almost single-handedly restored their credibility. They have been able to keep the friction under wraps thanks to their results, but it’s not hard to notice that they have spent a lot on signings that have little to do with the coach, like Pervis Estupinan, Ardon Jashari, and Christopher Nkunku, and never fullfilled his request for a super-duper no.9. All scenarios are on the table if there’s indeed a power struggle.
