Almería beat Mirandés 4-2 on Monday, climbing to second and pushing Castellón six points off automatic promotion with four games left. The result reshapes the Segunda standings.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Almería benefited from a soft refereeing display, with a highly dubious late penalty deciding the contest. Morcillo won and converted the spot-kick to settle it at 4-2.
The first half was breathless, with four goals in the opening 18 minutes, two for each side. After the break, Medrano put through his own net for 3-2 before the penalty sealed matters.
The victory leaves Almería on 70 points in the final automatic place, two behind leaders Racing de Santander on 72.
It was a damaging round for Castellón, beaten by Córdoba, who enter the final month fifth on 64. Above them sit Deportivo on 68 and Las Palmas on 66, alongside Racing and Almería.
Castellón were the only club among the automatic and play-off positions not to win this past round. Málaga did, and are sixth on 63.
Just outside the play-offs are Burgos in seventh on 62 and Eibar in eighth on 61. Córdoba remain in contention after five straight wins, ninth on 57.
