Almería face Málaga for the final promotion place to LaLiga EA Sports, a showdown viewed in Castellón through the sting of their semi-final exit. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the tie also reflects how close CD Castellón came against both finalists, and a lingering sense of sporting injustice.
The first leg is on Sunday 14 June at La Rosaleda, 21.00, with the return on Saturday 20 June at Almería, also 21.00. Almería hold the regulation edge after finishing higher in the regular season.
Almería reached the final by knocking out Castellón in a bruising semi-final. After a 1-1 at SkyFi Castalia, the return saw goals from Cala and Agustín Sienra put the visitors within sight of extra time. Dzodic then scored in added time for 3-2 at the UD Almería Stadium-Juegos Mediterráneos, sending Almería through.
Castellón had already shown they could handle Almería, winning 2-0 in the league at Castalia. That is why the semi-final defeat bit so hard.
Their record against Málaga was even stronger. Castellón won 2-1 late at Castalia, then 3-2 at La Rosaleda, with Cala the standout in a high-pressure setting.
So while Almería and Málaga vie for the step up, Castellón remain in the background of both stories. For fans at SkyFi Castalia, the campaign ended on a cruel detail rather than a lack of football or character, and it offers a platform for the next push.
