Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Dutch midfielder Kees Smit, with Xabi Alonso personally asking chief scout Juni Calafat to make the trip to the Netherlands to watch him in action, reports Real Madrid Confidencial.

The 19-year-old, who plays for AZ Alkmaar, has been one of the standout young players in the Eredivisie and is beginning to attract serious attention from across Europe.

Smit has been impressing not only his own teammates but also scouts from rival clubs.

At such a young age, he has already shown maturity on the ball and a strong sense of positioning, making him one of the brightest prospects in the Dutch league.

His current market value is only around €5 million, but with a contract running until 2028, any move will not be straightforward.

Possible fit at Real Madrid

For Real Madrid, Smit represents a very interesting option for the future. With Dani Ceballos’ future still uncertain, the Spanish giants are already considering possible replacements in midfield.

Smit’s profile suggests he could step into that role, while also adding more creativity in the attacking third, something the club has been looking to strengthen.

Alonso believes Smit would be a valuable addition. Entrusting Calafat, who has been behind several key signings for Madrid, is a sign that the club want to explore this opportunity seriously.

Not an easy operation

Competition, however, will be fierce. Several clubs around Europe are monitoring the teenager closely, and his performances continue to raise his reputation week by week.

For Madrid, the challenge will be moving quickly before Smit’s value rises further.

Bringing in a young midfielder of his quality could prove to be a smart long-term investment for Los Blancos.

Now it is up to Madrid to show intent in the next transfer window if they want to beat other top sides to his signature.
