Álvaro Martín impressed on his Castellón debut in the opening friendly against Sabadell, shining in deeper and advanced roles during a winning start.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the 25-year-old, first of this summer’s arrivals after leaving Andorra, provided three assists last season.
Pablo Hernández started him in a double pivot alongside Diego Barri, a more withdrawn position than his usual work in Andorra’s final third. From there he broke lines with passes, carries and dribbles, standing out across the first half hour.
After a first wave of changes on 33 minutes he stayed on until the interval, stepping up to the No 10 role. He found room between the lines and combined near the box, linking especially well with Hamza Bellari. That connection could add attacking variety for Castellón this season.
Post-match, Martín spoke of building rhythm and that everyone competed well from start to finish, adding that he felt good physically and on the ball.
He was delighted to get early minutes in the shirt and said winning is important for developing the habit. He also noted a quick adaptation to the dressing room, club and city after his first week under Hernández, and that he is feeling better every day.
