With less than two weeks until the tournament begins, América have yet to confirm a single signing. According to Americayya.net, club president Santiago Baños said they are seeking four additions for the squad. The report names three targets and says one move appears only a matter of time.
Baños attributed the delay to targets involved in the World Cup, which has complicated negotiations. The report also notes that some players are waiting to see if more offers arrive once the tournament ends.
The priority is Luis Chávez, a 30-year-old Mexican midfielder under contract at Dynamo Moscow. América have held talks to persuade him to return to Liga MX. He is interested, but is also monitoring potential offers from Europe, which has slowed discussions, and with his World Cup now over a quicker resolution is expected.
Another name is Denzell García, a midfielder linked since the last tournament ended, and at one stage Chivas seemed to be leading the race before that cooled. América’s board are negotiating with Juárez to sign the 22-year-old Mexican, who is seen as a likely regular in future national-team call-ups.
Lastly, Borja Iglesias, a 33-year-old Spanish striker currently at the World Cup and contracted to Celta de Vigo, is also on the list. Talks are under way to bring him to América, although any agreement may have to wait until his tournament finishes.
