CD Castellón have announced the departure of Amir Abedzadeh after two seasons, the Iranian goalkeeper ending a deal that ran to 30 June 2027 to seek the minutes he lacked in Castalia.
The decision comes with the continuity of Romain Matthys, the promotion of Sergi Torner and the arrival of Amir Saipi.
Abedzadeh, 33, leaves as the first Amir out and another in, his path blocked first by Gonzalo Crettaz then by Matthys.
Known as the Persian cat, he departs having remained patient and professional despite limited opportunities. He considered a winter exit last season but stayed.
His exit had looked likely from the start of pre-season, when he did not report back and his camp assessed offers. Saipi, a Kosovo international and former Lugano regular with 180 appearances, has signed until 2030.
Across two campaigns he played 10 official matches and close to 900 minutes. In 2024-25 he managed five games, 444 minutes and six goals conceded, earning a renewal to 2027. In 2025-26 he started five more, for 450 minutes and eight conceded, his last outing on 30 October 2025.
Abedzadeh joined on a free in July 2024 from Marítimo after 84 top-flight games for the Madeira club. He had previously made 65 Segunda appearances for Ponferradina, then played 20 more on returning to Portugal. He has 11 senior caps for Iran and made the 2018 and 2022 World Cup squads without playing.
