Sidelined from Marseille’s first-team group in recent days, Amir Murillo is moving towards a transfer to Besiktas, with negotiations aimed at completion by Friday night when the window closes in Türkiye.
L'Équipe reports that the right-back probably played his final minutes for Marseille at Jean-Bouin last Saturday, a 2-2 draw against Paris FC, after a difficult January marked by involvement in several goals conceded. He turns 30 next Wednesday.
The day after that match he exchanged words with Roberto De Zerbi, who questioned his commitment. Before Tuesday’s 3-0 Coupe de France win over Rennes, De Zerbi highlighted recurring lapses, including goals from throw-ins and very late concessions, saying technical errors are acceptable but he demands hunger.
Following the confrontation, Murillo was sent to the reserves and asked his representatives to find an exit. Often a substitute and shifted between roles during games, the Panama international feels wronged, despite signing an extension until 2028 last spring.
Relations with De Zerbi had already been tense, the coach having admitted last season he might have misjudged him. Two rivals arrived for his position in the close season, he slipped down the order, and team-mates criticised a late lapse in the Trophée des Champions against PSG on 8 January, a 2-2 draw lost 1-4 on penalties.
Besiktas have moved to capitalise, opening talks with Marseille and the player’s camp. If a deal is agreed, it would be the 10th winter departure, trimming the wage bill, bringing in around €6m and freeing a non-EU slot considered valuable in the mercato.
