Amorim makes ‘soft’ Man Utd admission following Everton draw

Ruben Amorim admitted his Manchester United side were too “soft” against Everton after they came from behind to draw 2-2 at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Toffees opened up the visitors in the first half, taking a two-goal lead through Beto and Abdoulaye Doucouré, and looked set for their fourth Premier League win in five games.

United were listless for much of the encounter, but mounted a comeback late in the second half. Bruno Fernandes found the net with a left-footed strike, buoying the struggling Red Devils to search for an equaliser.

Manuel Ugarte found it in spectacular fashion, rifling a stunning volley past Jordan Pickford. An end-to-end contest ensued, which almost resulted in a penalty for Everton, but VAR intervened and referee Andy Madley reversed his initial decision.

Man Utd showed fighting spirit to earn a point in the end, but Amorim couldn’t ignore the fact that the Merseyside outfit exposed them too often.

“If you start the game without the first half and losing 2-0, it is a good point,” he told TNT Sports after the final whistle. “But we need three points and we need to win the game.

“The worst part is that we are losing the ball without pressure and we are not doing what we need to do. We were soft.”

Asked how can make Man Utd more consistent, Amorim responded: “I don’t know if I will change it. Everything we do in the week, we have to do better in the game. In this moment, we need to focus on day by day.

“We need to survive this season and then we can think ahead. I don’t want to just say the negative part. In the second half, we were close to win this game.”
